CarrefourSA Retail Stores
CarrefourSA retail stores achieved more than 20% savings in energy consumption, while preventing 29.000 kilotons of CO2 with Florawise AI Optimisation Systems

Result:

  • 20% energy saving
  • Annual energy gain of 40 Million kWh
  • 29 kilotons of CO2 emissions prevented

Autonomous AI Integrated with:

  • HVAC Systems
  • Refrigeration Units
  • AC Systems
  • Lighting Systems

Application:

Optimizing the energy efficiency and reducing the carbon footprint in CarrefourSA stores using machine learning and AI-based agents. Each store has its own agent that continuously learns from energy consumption data, external environmental conditions, and internal changes using this knowledge to optimize energy usage. The Florawise AI technology uses state-of-the-art technology to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions in CarrefourSA stores.

Customer:

CarrefourSA retail stores serve with over 700 stores in more than 60 cities in Turkey. With the merger of both Carrefour Global and Sabancı Holding, CarrefourSA have been providing services in many parts of Turkey with over 60 years of global experience and more than 30 years of experience in Turkey.

Challenge:

700 CarrefourSA stores have an annual energy consumption of 210 million kWh. The energy projects that was implemented in stores require serious engineering and construction infrastructure. Optimizing existing systems, integrating new technologies, and ensuring the uninterrupted continuation of operational processes is quite a challenge. For example, while making improvements to air conditioning systems to reduce energy consumption, the airflow balance that affects the performance of cooling cabinets also had to be adjusted. Moreover, the stores cannot remain closed during operations. The teams need to carry out intensive coordination and meticulous planning during these processes.

Solution:

We initiated a comprehensive project to enhance the energy efficiency of the CarrefourSA stores and reduce the carbon footprint. The building sector is one of the largest contributors to global carbon emissions. For buildings, it is often not feasible to replace entire structures or systems from scratch. Now, we are using this technology in our buildings to optimize heating and cooling systems, reduce energy consumption, and lower energy costs. In CarrefourSA stores, not only are the HVAC systems integrated with this autonomous AI optimization system, but also refrigeration units, air conditioning systems, and lighting systems.

By dynamically analyzing door-opening frequencies, internal temperature fluctuations, and external environmental conditions, the system ensures that cooling units operate at an optimal level without wasting energy unnecessarily. Similarly, lighting systems adjust their energy consumption automatically based on whether the store is open or closed, as well as the amount of natural daylight available. In this process, we dynamically update the energy programming of refrigeration units and HVAC systems, allowing real-time consumption data to be shared with the Florawise holistic engine for deeper and more efficient optimizations. The most innovative part of this project is machine learning and AI-based agents. Each store has its own agent that continuously learns from energy consumption data, external environmental conditions, and internal changes using this knowledge to optimize energy usage. The Florawise AI technology we have developed uses state-of-the-art technology to reduce energy consumption and carbon emissions in our stores. Without the need for additional sensors or major investments, we have achieved up to 20% energy savings and annual energy gain of 40 kWh by making existing systems smarter. With this project, we have prevented 29 kilotons of carbon dioxide emissions across CarrefourSA stores and set a new benchmark in the industry.
